| وَالْعَادِيَاتِ ضَبْحًا ﴿١﴾ |
| Wal-aadiyaati dabhaa |
| By the racers, panting, |
| فَالْمُورِيَاتِ قَدْحًا ﴿٢﴾ |
| Fal-muriyati qadhaa |
| And the producers of sparks when striking, |
| فَالْمُغِيرَاتِ صُبْحًا ﴿٣﴾ |
| Fal-mugheerati subhaa |
| And the chargers at dawn, |
| فَأَثَرْنَ بِهِ نَقْعًا ﴿٤﴾ |
| Fa-atharna bihi naqaa |
| Stirring up thereby dust, |
| فَوَسَطْنَ بِهِ جَمْعًا ﴿٥﴾ |
| Fa-wasatna bihi jam’aa |
| Penetrating into the midst of the enemy gathering, |
| إِنَّ الإِنسَانَ لِرَبِّهِ لَكَنُودٌ ﴿٦﴾ |
| Innal insaana li rabbihi lakanood |
| Indeed, mankind is ungrateful to his Lord, |
| وَإِنَّهُ عَلَىٰ ذَلِكَ لَشَهِيدٌ ﴿٧﴾ |
| Wa innahu ‘ala dhalika la shaheed |
| And indeed, he is to that a witness. |
| وَإِنَّهُ لِحُبِّ الْخَيْرِ لَشَدِيدٌ ﴿٨﴾ |
| Wa innahu li hubbil khairi la shadeed |
| And indeed, he is intense in love of wealth. |
| أَفَلَا يَعْلَمُ إِذَا بُعْثِرَ مَا فِي الْقُبُورِ ﴿٩﴾ |
| Afala ya’lamu iza bu’thira ma filquboor |
| But does he not know that when the contents of graves are scattered? |
| وُحُصِلَ مَا فِي الصُّدُورِ ﴿١٠﴾ |
| Wa hussila ma fissudoor |
| And that within the breasts will be made known. |
| إِنَّ رَبَّهُمْ بِهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَخَبِيرٌ ﴿١١﴾ |
| Inna rabbahum bihim yawma’idhin lakhabeer |
| Indeed, their Lord is, of them, on that Day fully aware. |

(1) By the racers, panting,

Tafseer (Ibn Kathir Summary)
Surah Al-Adiyat describes the intense and disciplined charge of war horses, galloping with speed, creating sparks, and striking fear as they penetrate enemy lines. Allah swears by these powerful scenes to highlight the dedication, loyalty, and obedience of horses in contrast to the human being who is often ungrateful to his Lord.
Ibn Kathir explains that “Al-Adiyat” refers to the horses used in battle by the believers. Their breath, sparks, and dawn raids were known scenes of courage. These horses risk their lives, while many humans refuse to obey the One who created them, blessed them, and sustained them.
“Lakanood” means extremely ungrateful a person who forgets his blessings and denies Allah’s favors. Ibn Abbas says: “Kanood is one who counts calamities but forgets blessings.”
The surah then reminds that mankind’s love of wealth misguides him. Ibn Kathir says people become blind in pursuit of possessions, forgetting the Hereafter.
Finally, the surah describes the Day of Judgment when graves will be overturned and everything hidden in hearts will be exposed. Allah will judge with complete knowledge.
