| وَيْلٌ لِكُلِّ هُمَزَةٍ لُّمَزَةٍ ﴿١﴾ |
| Wailun likulli humazatin lumazah |
| Woe to every scorner and mocker, |
| الَّذِي جَمَعَ مَالًا وَعَدَّدَهُ ﴿٢﴾ |
| Alladhi jama’a malan wa ‘addadah |
| Who collects wealth and [continually] counts it, |
| يَحْسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُ أَخْلَدَهُ ﴿٣﴾ |
| Yahsabu anna malahu akhladah |
| He thinks that his wealth will make him immortal, |
| كَلَّا لَيُنْبَذَنَّ فِي الْحُطَمَةِ ﴿٤﴾ |
| Kalla layunbadhanna fil-hutamah |
| No! He will surely be thrown into the Crusher, |
| وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْحُطَمَةُ ﴿٥﴾ |
| Wa ma adraka ma al-hutamah |
| And what can make you know what the Crusher is? |
| نَارُ اللَّهِ الْمُوقَدَةُ ﴿٦﴾ |
| Naru Allahi al-muqadah |
| The fire of Allah, [eternally] fueled, |
| الَّتِي تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى الْأَفْئِدَةِ ﴿٧﴾ |
| Allati tatalli’u ‘ala al-af’idah |
| Which rises over the hearts, |
| إِنَّهَا عَلَيْهِم مُّؤْصَدَةٌ ﴿٨﴾ |
| Innaha ‘alayhim mu’sadah |
| Indeed, it will be closed down over them, |
| فِي عَمَدٍ مُمَدَّدَةٍ ﴿٩﴾ |
| Fi ‘amadim mumadadah |

Tafseer (Ibn Kathir Summary)
Surah Al-Humazah warns against slander, backbiting and greed. Ibn Kathir explains that the surah condemns those who mock people and hoard wealth, thinking it will grant them permanence. The surah reminds that arrogance and attachment to riches will not save from the punishment of the Hereafter. The vivid description of the “Crusher” (al-hutamah) and the fire of Allah is meant to awaken fear and prompt repentance.
