قُلْ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدٌ ﴿١﴾
Qul huwa Allahu ahad
Say, “He is Allah, [who is] One.”

ٱللَّهُ ٱلصَّمَدُ ﴿٢﴾
Allahu assamad
Allah, the Eternal Refuge.

لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ ﴿٣﴾
Lam yalid wa lam yoolad
He neither begets nor is born.

وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُۥ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ ﴿٤﴾
Wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan ahad
Nor is there to Him any equivalent.

(1) Say, “He is Allah, [who is] One.”

Tafseer (Ibn Kathir Summary)

Surah Al-Ikhlas clearly defines the concept of Tawheed. Ibn Kathir explains that this Surah rejects all forms of shirk by affirming Allah’s absolute oneness, self-sufficiency, and uniqueness. It denies lineage, offspring, or equality with any creation. Due to its powerful meaning, the Prophet ﷺ said that it equals one-third of the Qur’an in reward.
