Ayah 1

Innaa fatahnaa laka fathan mubeenaa
Indeed, We have given you a clear victory.

Ayah 2

That Allah may forgive for you what preceded of your sin and what will follow and complete His favor upon you and guide you to a straight path.

Ayah 3

Wa yansurakallahu nasran ‘azeezaa
And that Allah may aid you with a mighty victory.

Ayah 4

Huwal-ladhee anzalas-sakeenata fee quloobil-mu’mineena liyazdaadoo eemaanan ma‘a eemaanihim, wa lillaahi junoodus-samaawaati wal-ard, wa kaanallaahu ‘aleeman hakeemaa
It is He who sent down tranquility into the hearts of the believers that they would increase in faith along with their faith. And to Allah belong the soldiers of the heavens and the earth, and Allah is Knowing and Wise.

Ayah 5

Liyudkhilal-mu’mineena wal-mu’minaati jannaatin tajree min tahtihal-anhaaru khaalideena feehaa wa yukaffira ‘anhum sayyi’aatihim, wa kaana dhaalika ‘indallaahi fawzan ‘azeemaa
That He may admit the believing men and the believing women to gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally, and remove from them their misdeeds – and that is, in the sight of Allah, a great attainment.

Ayah 6

Wa yu‘adhdhibal-munaafiqeena wal-munaafiqaati wal-mushrikeena wal-mushrikaati az-zaanneena billaahi zannas-saw’, ‘alayhim daa’iratus-saw’, wa ghadiballaahu ‘alayhim wa la‘anahum wa a‘adda lahum jahannama wa saa’at maseeraa
And that He may punish the hypocrite men and women and the polytheist men and women – those who assume about Allah an assumption of evil. Upon them is a misfortune of evil, and Allah has become angry with them and cursed them and prepared for them Hell, and evil it is as a destination.

Ayah 7

Wa lillaahi junoodus-samaawaati wal-ard, wa kaanallaahu ‘azeezan hakeemaa
And to Allah belong the soldiers of the heavens and the earth. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.

Ayah 8

Innaa arsalnaaka shaahidan wa mubashshiran wa nadheeraa
Indeed, We have sent you as a witness and a bringer of good tidings and a warner.

Ayah 9

Litu’minoo billaahi wa rasoolihi wa tu‘azzirroohu wa tuwaqqiroohu wa tusabbihuhu bukratan wa aseelaa
That you may believe in Allah and His Messenger and honor him and respect him and exalt Allah morning and afternoon.

Ayah 10

Innal-ladheena yubayi‘oonaka innamaa yubayi‘oonallaah, yadullaahi fawqa aydeehim, faman nakatha fa’innamaa yankuthu ‘alaa nafsih, wa man awfaa bimaa ‘aahada ‘alayhullaaha fasayu’teeh ajran ‘azeemaa
Indeed, those who pledge allegiance to you, they are actually pledging allegiance to Allah. The hand of Allah is over their hands. So whoever breaks his word only breaks it to the detriment of himself. And whoever fulfills what he has promised Allah – He will give him a great reward.

Ayah 11

Sayaqoolu laka al-mukhallifoona minal-a‘raabi shaghalatnaa amwaalunaa wa ahloonaa fastaghfir lanaa yaqooloona bi-alsinatihim maa laysa fee quloobihim qul faman yamliku lakum minallaahi shay’an in araada bikum darran aw araada bikum naf‘an bal kaanallaahu bimaa ta‘maloona khabeeraa
Those who remained behind of the Bedouins will say to you, “Our properties and our families occupied us, so ask forgiveness for us.” They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts. Say, “Then who could prevent Allah at all if He intended for you harm or intended for you benefit?” Rather, Allah is Acquainted with what you do.

Ayah 12

Bal zanantum allan yanqaliba ar-rasoolu wal-mu’minoona ilaa ahleehim abadan wa zuyyina dhaalika fee quloobikum wa zanantum zannas-saw’i wa kuntum qawman booraa
Rather, you thought that the Messenger and the believers would never return to their families, ever, and that was made pleasing in your hearts. And you assumed an assumption of evil and became a people ruined.

Ayah 13

Wa man lam yu’min billaahi wa rasoolihi fa innaa a‘tadnaa lil-kaafireena sa‘eeraa
And whoever has not believed in Allah and His Messenger – then indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers a Blaze.

Ayah 14

Wa lillaahi mulkus-samaawaati wal-ard yaghfiru liman yashaa’u wa yu‘adhdhibu man yashaa’ wa kaanallaahu ghafooran raheemaa
And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

Ayah 15

Sayaqoolul-mukhallifoona idhantalaktum ilaa maghaanima lita’khudhoohā dharoonaa nattabi‘kum yureedoona an yubaddiloo kalaamallaah qul lan tattabi‘oonaa kadhaalikum qaalallaahu min qabl fasayaqooloona bal tahsudoonanaa bal kaanoo laa yafqahoona illaa qaleelaa
Those who remained behind will say when you set out toward the spoils to take them, “Let us follow you.” They wish to change the words of Allah. Say, “Never will you follow us. Thus did Allah say before.” Then they will say, “Rather, you envy us.” But they were not understanding except a little.

Ayah 16

Qul lil-mukhallifeena minal-a‘raabi satud‘awna ilaa qawmin oolee ba’sin shadeedin tuqaatiloonahum aw yuslimoona fa-in tutee‘oo yu’tikumullaahu ajran hasanaa wa-in tatawallaw kamaa tawallaytum min qablu yu‘adhdhibkum ‘adhaaban aleemaa
Say to those who remained behind of the Bedouins, “You will be called to [face] a people of great military might; you may fight them, or they will submit. So if you obey, Allah will give you a good reward; but if you turn away as you turned away before, He will punish you with a painful punishment.”

Ayah 17

Laysa ‘alal-a‘maa harajun wa laa ‘alal-a‘raji harajun wa laa ‘alal-mareedi haraj wa man yuti‘illaaha wa rasoolahu yudkhilhu jannaatin tajree min tahtihal-anhaar wa man yatawalla yu‘adhdhibhu ‘adhaaban aleemaa
There is not upon the blind any guilt or upon the lame any guilt or upon the ill any guilt. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger – He will admit him to gardens beneath which rivers flow; but whoever turns away – He will punish him with a painful punishment.

Ayah 18

Laqad radiyallaahu ‘anil-mu’mineena idh yubayi‘oonaka tahtash-shajarati fa‘alima maa fee quloobihim fa-anzalas-sakeenata ‘alayhim wa athaabahum fathan qareebaa
Certainly Allah was pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you under the tree, and He knew what was in their hearts, so He sent down tranquility upon them and rewarded them with an imminent victory.

Ayah 19

And much booty that they will take. And ever is Allah Exalted in Might and Wise.

Ayah 20

Wa‘adakumullaahu maghaanima katheeratan ta’khudhoonahaa fa‘ajjala lakum haadhihi wa kaffa aydiyan-naasi ‘ankum wa litakoona aayatan lil-mu’mineena wa yahdiyakum siraatan mustaqeemaa
Allah has promised you much booty that you will take; and He has hastened for you this [victory] and withheld the hands of people from you – that it may be a sign for the believers and that He may guide you to a straight path.

Ayah 21

Wa ukhraa lam taqdiroo ‘alayhaa qad ahaatallaahu bihaa wa kaanallaahu ‘alaa kulli shay’in qadeeraa
And [He promises] other [victories] that you were not [yet] able to [realize] – Allah has already encompassed them. And ever is Allah over all things competent.

Ayah 22

Wa law qaatalakumul-ladheena kafaroo lawallawul-adbaara thumma laa yajidoona waliyyan wa laa naseeraa
And if those [Makkans] who disbelieved had fought you, they would have turned their backs [in retreat], and then they would not find a protector or a helper.

Ayah 23

Sunnatallaahil-latee qad khalat min qablu wa lan tajida lisunnatillaahi tabdeelaa
[This is] the established way of Allah which has occurred before. And never will you find in the way of Allah any change.

Ayah 24

Wa huwal-ladhee kaffa aydiyahum ‘ankum wa aydiyakum ‘anhum bibatni makkata min ba‘di an athfarakum ‘alayhim wa kaanallaahu bimaa ta‘maloona baseeraa
And it is He who restrained their hands from you and your hands from them within Makkah after He caused you to overcome them. And ever is Allah of what you do, Seeing.

Ayah 25

Humul-ladheena kafaroo wa saddookum ‘anil-masjidil-haraami wal-hadya ma‘koofan an yablugha mahillahu wa lawlaa rijaalun mu’minoona wa nisaa’un mu’minaatun lam ta‘lamoohum an tata’oohum fatusaeebakum minhum ma‘arratun bighayri ‘ilm liyudkhilallaahu fee rahmatihi man yashaa’ law tazayyaloo la‘adhabnal-ladheena kafaroo minhum ‘adhaaban aleemaa
They are the ones who disbelieved and obstructed you from al-Masjid al-Haram while the offering was prevented from reaching its place. And if not for believing men and believing women whom you did not know – that you might trample them and there would befall you because of them dishonor without [your] knowledge – [you would have been permitted to enter Makkah]. [This was so] that Allah might admit to His mercy whom He wills. If they had been separated, We would have punished those who disbelieved among them with painful punishment.

Ayah 26

Idh ja‘alal-ladheena kafaroo fee quloobihimul-hamiyyata hamiyyatal-jaahiliyyati fa-anzalallaahu sakeenatahu ‘alaa rasoolihi wa ‘alal-mu’mineena wa alzamahum kalimatat-taqwaa wa kaanoo ahaqqa bihaa wa ahlahaa wa kaanallaahu bikulli shay’in ‘aleemaa
When those who disbelieved had put into their hearts chauvinism – the chauvinism of ignorance – then Allah sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger and upon the believers and imposed upon them the word of righteousness, and they were more deserving of it and worthy of it. And ever is Allah of all things Knowing.

Ayah 27

Laqad sadaqallaahu rasoolahur-ru’yaa bil-haqq latadkhulunnal-masjidal-haraama in shaa’allaahu aamineena muhalli qeena ruoosakum wa muqassireena laa takhaafoona fa‘alima maa lam ta‘lamoo faja‘ala min dooni dhaalika fathan qareebaa
Certainly Allah has fulfilled the vision of His Messenger in truth. You will surely enter al-Masjid al-Haram, if Allah wills, in safety, with your heads shaved and [hair] shortened, not fearing [anyone]. He knew what you did not know and has arranged before that a near victory.

Ayah 28

Huwal-ladhee arsala rasoolahu bil-hudaa wa deenil-haqq liyuzhirahu ‘alad-deeni kullihi wa kafaa billaahi shaheedaa
It is He who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to manifest it over all religion. And sufficient is Allah as Witness.

Ayah 29

Muhammadur-rasoolullaah wal-ladheena ma‘ahu ashiddaau ‘alal-kuffaari ruhamaa’u baynahum taraahum rukka‘an sujjadan yabtaghoona fadlan minallaahi wa ridwaanaa seemaahum fee wujoohihim min atharis-sujood dhaalika mathaluhum fit-tawraah wa mathaluhum fil-injeeli kazar‘in akhraja shat’ahu fa-aazarahu fastaghlaza fastawaa ‘alaa sooqihi yu‘jibuz-zurra‘a liyagheetha bihimul-kuffaar wa‘adallaahul-ladheena aamanoo wa ‘amilus-saalihaati minhum maghfiratan wa ajran ‘azeemaa
Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating [in prayer], seeking bounty from Allah and [His] pleasure. Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration. That is their description in the Torah. And their description in the Gospel is as a plant which produces its offshoots and strengthens them so they grow firm and stand upon their stalks, delighting the sowers – so that Allah may enrage the disbelievers by them. Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds among them forgiveness and a great reward.

Surah Al-Fath – Full English Translation (Saheeh International)

1. Indeed, We have given you a clear conquest.

2. That Allah may forgive for you what preceded of your sin and what will follow and complete His favor upon you and guide you to a straight path.

3. And [that] Allah may aid you with a mighty victory.

4. It is He who sent down tranquility into the hearts of the believers that they would increase in faith along with their faith. And to Allah belong the soldiers of the heavens and the earth, and ever is Allah Knowing and Wise.

5. [And] that He may admit the believing men and believing women to gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally, and remove from them their misdeeds – and ever is that, in the sight of Allah, a great attainment –

6. And [that] He may punish the hypocrite men and hypocrite women, and the polytheist men and polytheist women – those who assume about Allah an assumption of evil nature. Upon them is a misfortune of evil nature; and Allah has become angry with them and has cursed them and prepared for them Hell, and evil it is as a destination.

7. And to Allah belong the soldiers of the heavens and the earth. And ever is Allah Exalted in Might and Wise.

8. Indeed, We have sent you as a witness and a bringer of good tidings and a warner.

9. That you [people] may believe in Allah and His Messenger and honor Him and respect the Prophet and exalt Him morning and afternoon.

10. Indeed, those who pledge allegiance to you, [O Muhammad] – they are actually pledging allegiance to Allah. The hand of Allah is over their hands. So whoever breaks his word only breaks it to the detriment of himself. And whoever fulfills what he has covenanted with Allah – He will give him a great reward.

11. Those who remained behind of the bedouins will say to you, “Our properties and our families occupied us, so ask forgiveness for us.” They say with their tongues what is not within their hearts. Say, “Then who could prevent Allah at all if He intended for you harm or intended for you benefit? Rather, ever is Allah, with what you do, Acquainted.”

12. But you thought that the Messenger and the believers would never return to their families, ever, and that was made pleasing in your hearts. And you assumed an assumption of evil and became a people ruined.

13. And whoever has not believed in Allah and His Messenger – then indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers a Blaze.

14. And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.

15. Those who remained behind will say when you set out toward the war booty to take it, “Let us follow you.” They wish to change the words of Allah. Say, “Never will you follow us. Thus did Allah say before.” So they will say, “Rather, you envy us.” But [in fact] they were not understanding except a little.

16. Say to those who remained behind of the bedouins, “You will be called to [fight] a people of great military might; you may fight them, or they will submit. So if you obey, Allah will give you a good reward; but if you turn away as you turned away before, He will punish you with a painful punishment.”

17. There is not upon the blind any guilt or upon the lame any guilt or upon the ill any guilt. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger – He will admit him to gardens beneath which rivers flow; but whoever turns away – He will punish him with a painful punishment.

18. Certainly was Allah pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you, [O Muhammad], under the tree, and He knew what was in their hearts, so He sent down tranquility upon them and rewarded them with an imminent conquest.

19. And much war booty which they will take. And ever is Allah Exalted in Might and Wise.

20. Allah has promised you much war booty that you will take and has hastened for you this [victory] and withheld the hands of people from you – that it may be a sign for the believers and [that] He may guide you to a straight path.

21. And [He promises] other [victories] that you were not [yet] able to [realize] – Allah has already encompassed them. And ever is Allah over all things competent.

22. And if those who disbelieved had fought you, they would have turned their backs [in retreat], and then they would not find a protector or a helper.

23. [This is] the established way of Allah which has occurred before. And never will you find in the way of Allah any change.

24. And it is He who withheld their hands from you and your hands from them within Makkah after He caused you to overcome them. And ever is Allah of what you do, Seeing.

28. It is He who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to manifest it over all religion. And sufficient is Allah as Witness.

Tafseer Surah Al-Fath (Ibn Kathir – Detailed)

Surah Al-Fath was revealed after the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, an event that appeared outwardly unfavorable to the Muslims but was declared by Allah as a “clear victory.” Ibn Kathir explains that this victory was not merely military, but spiritual, political, and strategic. The treaty opened the door for peaceful propagation of Islam, leading to mass acceptance of the faith.

Allah granted the Prophet ﷺ forgiveness, honor, and divine support, affirming his status and mission. The tranquility sent into believers’ hearts strengthened their faith during moments of uncertainty. Hypocrites and doubters were exposed through their false excuses, while sincere believers were promised forgiveness, Paradise, and great rewards.

The pledge under the tree (Bay‘at ar-Ridwan) is highlighted as a moment of Allah’s pleasure with the believers. Their loyalty symbolized true faith. The Surah also describes the characteristics of the Companions: firmness against disbelief, mercy among themselves, humility in worship, and devotion to Allah.

Ibn Kathir emphasizes that Allah’s help comes according to His divine wisdom and timing. What humans may see as loss can, in reality, be a great victory. The Surah ends by affirming Islam’s ultimate dominance and the honored status of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
