Tafseer (Ibn Kathir Summary – English)

Surah Al-Inshiqaq describes the dramatic events that will occur on the Day of Judgment. The surah begins with powerful imagery: the sky splitting apart and the earth stretching out while releasing everything within it. These events demonstrate Allah’s absolute control over the universe.

The surah explains that every human being is striving through life and will ultimately meet their Lord. On that Day, people will receive their records of deeds. Those who receive their record in the right hand will have an easy reckoning and enter Paradise with joy. However, those who receive their record behind their back will face regret and punishment in Hellfire.

Allah then swears by natural signs such as twilight, the night, and the full moon to emphasize the certainty of human life moving through stages until the Day of Judgment. Despite these clear signs, many people still reject faith.

The surah ends by warning disbelievers of punishment while giving good news to believers who perform righteous deeds, promising them a reward that will never end.
