| تَبَّتْ يَدَا أَبِي لَهَبٍ وَتَبَّ ﴿١﴾ |
| Tabbat yada abee Lahabin wa tabb |
| May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he. |
| مَا أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُ مَالُهُ وَمَا كَسَبَ ﴿٢﴾ |
| Maa aghnaa ‘anhu maaluhu wa maa kasab |
| His wealth will not avail him or that which he gained. |
| سَيَصْلَىٰ نَارًا ذَاتَ لَهَبٍ ﴿٣﴾ |
| Sayaslaa naran dhaata lahab |
| He will burn in a Fire of blazing flame. |
| وَامْرَأَتُهُ حَمَّالَةَ الْحَطَبِ ﴿٤﴾ |
| Wamra’atuhu hammalatal-hatab |
| And his wife [as well] – the carrier of firewood. |
| فِي جِيدِهَا حَبْلٌ مِّن مَّسَدٍ ﴿٥﴾ |
| Fee jeedihaa hablun mim masad |
| Around her neck is a rope of twisted fiber. |

(1) May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he.
(2) His wealth will not avail him or that which he gained.
(3) He will burn in a Fire of blazing flame.
(4) And his wife [as well] – the carrier of firewood.
(5) Around her neck is a rope of twisted fiber.

Tafseer (Ibn Kathir Summary)
This Surah was revealed in Makkah condemning Abu Lahab, the uncle of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who openly opposed Islam. Ibn Kathir explains that despite Abu Lahab’s wealth and status, nothing could save him from Allah’s punishment. His wife also shared in this sin by spreading harm and hatred, symbolized by carrying firewood.
