وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحَاهَا ﴿١﴾
Wash-shamsi wa duhaha
By the sun and its brightness

وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَاهَا ﴿٢﴾
Wal-qamari idha talaha
And [by] the moon when it follows it

وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّاهَا ﴿٣﴾
Wan-nahari idha jallaha
And [by] the day when it displays it

وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَاهَا ﴿٤﴾
Wal-layli idha yaghshaha
And [by] the night when it covers it

وَالسَّمَاءِ وَمَا بَنَاهَا ﴿٥﴾
Was-sama’i wa ma banaha
And [by] the sky and He who constructed it

وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَاهَا ﴿٦﴾
Wal-ardi wa ma tahaha
And [by] the earth and He who spread it

وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّاهَا ﴿٧﴾
Wa nafsin wa ma sawwaha
And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it

فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا ﴿٨﴾
Fa alhamaha fujuraha wa taqwaha
And inspired it with discernment of its wickedness and its righteousness

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّاهَا ﴿٩﴾
Qad aflaha man zakkaha
He has succeeded who purifies it

وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّاهَا ﴿١٠﴾
Wa qad khaba man dassaha
And he has failed who corrupts it

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَاهَا ﴿١١﴾
Kadhdhabat Thamoodu bi-taghwaha
Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression

إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشْقَىٰهَا ﴿١٢﴾
Idhinba’atha ashqaha
When the most wicked of them was sent forth

فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ نَاقَةَ اللَّهِ وَسُقْيَاهَا ﴿١٣﴾
Faqala lahum rasoolullahi naqatallahi wa suqyaha
And the messenger of Allah said to them, “[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or her drink.”

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنبِهِمْ فَسَوَّاهَا ﴿١٤﴾
Fakadhdhabuhu fa’aqaruha fadamdama ‘alayhim rabbuhum bidhanbihim fasawwaha
But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal upon all of them.

وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَاهَا ﴿١٥﴾
Wa la yakhafu ‘uqbaha
And He does not fear the consequence thereof.

(1) By the sun and its brightness,

(2) And [by] the moon when it follows it,

(3) And [by] the day when it displays it,

(4) And [by] the night when it covers it,

(5) And [by] the sky and He who constructed it,

(6) And [by] the earth and He who spread it,

(7) And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it,

(8) And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness,

(9) He has succeeded who purifies it,

(10) And he has failed who instills it [with corruption],

(11) Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression,

(12) When the most wretched of them was sent forth,

(13) And the Messenger of Allah said to them, “The she-camel of Allah and her drink.”

(14) But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord destroyed them for their sin and leveled them.

(15) And He does not fear the consequence thereof.

(1) Wash-shamsi wa ḍuḥāhā

(2) Wal-qamari idhā talāhā

(3) Wan-nahāri idhā jallāhā
