| أَلْهَاكُمُ التَّكَاثُرُ ﴿١﴾ |
| Alhaakumu-t-takaathur |
| Competition in [worldly] increase diverts you |
| حَتَّىٰ زُرْتُمُ الْمَقَابِرَ ﴿٢﴾ |
| Hatta zurtumul-maqaabir |
| Until you visit the graves |
| كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٣﴾ |
| Kalla sawfa ta’lamoon |
| No! You will come to know |
| ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ ﴿٤﴾ |
| Thumma kalla sawfa ta’lamoon |
| Then no! You will come to know |
| كَلَّا لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عِلْمَ الْيَقِينِ ﴿٥﴾ |
| Kalla law ta’lamoona ‘ilmal-yaqeen |
| No! If you only knew with certainty |
| لَتَرَوُنَّ الْجَحِيمَ ﴿٦﴾ |
| Latarawunnal-jaheem |
| You would surely see the Hellfire |
| ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّهَا عَيْنَ الْيَقِينِ ﴿٧﴾ |
| Thumma latarawunnahaa ‘aynal-yaqeen |
| Then you will surely see it with the eye of certainty |
| ثُمَّ لَتُسْأَلُنَّ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَنِ النَّعِيمِ ﴿٨﴾ |
| Thumma latus’alunna yawma’idhin ‘anin-na’eem |
| Then you will surely be asked that Day about pleasure |

Tafseer (Ibn Kathir Summary)
This Surah warns people who waste their lives in competition for wealth, status, and worldly increase. Ibn Kathir explains that such obsession blinds a person until death arrives. Allah warns repeatedly that people will come to know the reality when they face the Hereafter. The Surah stresses that every blessing will be questioned on the Day of Judgement — including health, time, food, and worldly pleasures.
