Tafseer of Surah At-Takwir (Ibn Kathir Summary)

Surah At-Takwir describes the dramatic events that will occur on the Day of Judgment. The Surah begins by mentioning major cosmic changes such as the darkening of the sun, the falling of stars, the movement of mountains, and the boiling of seas. These events show the complete transformation of the universe when the final hour arrives.

The Surah also highlights the injustice of burying infant girls alive, a practice that existed in pre-Islamic Arabia. On the Day of Judgment, the innocent child will be asked for what sin she was killed, showing the absolute justice of Allah.

Later verses confirm that the Qur’an is a divine revelation brought by the noble angel Jibreel to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Surah rejects the accusations of the disbelievers who claimed that the Prophet was mad or influenced by devils. Instead, the Qur’an is described as a reminder for all people who want to follow the straight path.
